As one of the important pillar industries of the national economy, the construction industry is an important link to achieve the goal of carbon peaking and carbon neutralization.Green building can provide people with a comfortable living environment, and it is also indispensable for the construction field to achieve carbon neutrality. In July 2020,the Ministry of housing and urban rural development, the national development and Reform Commission and other seven departments issued the action plan for green building construction, which proposed that by 2022,the proportion of green building area in new urban buildings in that year would reach 70%.

The construction industry accounts for a large proportion of China's carbon emissions.According to the Research Report on China's building energy consumption and carbon emissions(2021)released by the China Building Energy Conservation Association at the end of 2021,the total carbon emissions of the whole construction process in China in 2019 was 4.997 billion tons of carbon dioxide, accounting for 50.6%of the national carbon emissions. The low-carbon transformation of the construction industry is imminent.

According to experts,at present, the main carbon emission sources of China's construction industry are concentrated in two aspects:the overall reconstruction, renovation and interior decoration of buildings.Take the overall reconstruction and reconstruction of buildings as an example.During the demolition and construction of old buildings,a lot of garbage will be generated, such as wood, concrete, glass and other old buildings.During the construction, carbon emissions will be generated from water, electricity, air conditioning, ventilation and lighting.

In the low-carbon transformation of the construction industry, there are currently two major problems:first, there are many links, and it is difficult to achieve fine whole process management.China's construction industry is still dominated by traditional production methods. The industrialization degree is relatively low,and there is still room for improvement in construction technology. It is a long way to go to achieve low-carbon development in the production, transportation and on-site construction of steel, cement, glass and other building materials.Second, affected by population and other factors,China has a large construction stock and high carbon emissions.China is the country with the largest number of existing buildings and new buildings in the world. Many buildings have high energy consumption and high emission.

Under the"double carbon"background,if the construction industry wants to realize low-carbon transformation,it must first start from the root and change the production mode. The new production mode should promote the transformation of construction enterprises to the whole industry chain mode, from design, production to construction, and form an integrated whole industry chain working mode. For example, prefabricated buildings, the main structural components of such buildings are all modular produced on the assembly line of the house factory, which saves the complex process of traditional processing and greatly shortens the project duration. The most important thing is that this way is green, environmentally friendly and recyclable.

The second is the innovation of the construction mode of the construction industry. From the existing technology, prefabricated building will be the most potential innovation direction in the construction industry.Compared with the traditional decoration, the prefabricated decoration has greatly reduced the consumption and consumption of materials, and the carbon reduction is more than 50%.

The third is the reform of the development model. Now more and more plots are required to compete for"high standard construction scheme",focusing on the cost and carbon emission of the whole life cycle of the building.Taking Beijing as an example, the notice on regulating the construction and management of high-quality commercial housing projects issued by Beijing has specified the construction requirements of high-standard commercial housing.Among them, the high-quality residential construction scheme consists of six parts:green building, prefabricated building,ultra-low energy consumption building, healthy building, livable technology application and management mode.

There is still a long way to go for the construction industry to achieve low-carbon transformation and development.Promoting the use of energy-saving materials is of great significance for building energy conservation.
